My parents sometimes call me Colt and other loved ones have called me CAP (Colton Arthur Peters)
My name is Colton and I am the Assistant General Manager for Climb Bentonville. I moved to Bentonville to be Betzy’s right hand in the gym; helping her to foster the best climbing community in Northwest Arkansas.
Climbing became a lifestyle I wholly embraced at the age of 15. Since then, there has not been a week in which I am not in the gym or outside enjoying the sport. The most interesting aspect of climbing to me is the dichotomy associated with its community. Climbing is generally viewed as a “solitary” sport; you versus rock, your will versus its unmoving resilience. However, the eccentricity of the sport also brings climbers together into a tightly knit community of passionate individuals from all walks of life. This communal passion, the willingness of the community to continually encourage one another, has been the major factor in pushing my view from mere interest into an all-encompassing lifestyle.
I would have to say my favorite route outside thus far has been Super Slab in Eldorado State Park. I am honestly at a loss of words to adequately describe and explain my experience with this climb.
My current climbing goal is get back into 5.13s. Just to clarify though, I don’t consider myself a “numbers chaser.” I seek to climb 5.13 to be able to enjoy as many super classics anywhere I go to climb – I am a “star chaser”
What’s rad about my life right now?! I am about to meet an entirely new part of my family here in Arkansas!! I am so stoked to open the doors and get to know all my fellow climbers; continuing to grow and foster this beautiful sport!
Obviously Climb Murfreesboro! I’d also like to give a shout out to Tallahassee Rock Gym, my home away from home and place of employment for nearly 10 years; I have invested some literal blood, sweat, and tears into that place (ig: @tallyrockgym). Lastly, I’d like to give recognition to Katie Boué; a strong, beautiful, intelligent, caring woman that is all about giving a voice to the outdoors and being an advocate for the environment (ig: @katieboue). I know there are tons more I could shout out to… if you’d like more
